Joseph Opinel invented a folding pocket knife in 1890 that is such a simple, elegant and humble design that it is still being made today almost unchanged. The Opinel company is still family owned and Opinel knives are manufactured where they always have been in Chambéry, a small town in the heart of the French Alps.

Cleaning: After each use, clean the blade with warm, soapy water and dry it thoroughly to prevent rust. Avoid soaking the knife in water.

Sharpening: Regularly sharpen the blade using a whetstone or sharpening tool to maintain its cutting quality.

Storage: Store the knife in a dry place, preferably in a sheath, to protect the blade and handle from moisture and damage.

Maintenance: Periodically apply a light coat of food-safe mineral oil to the blade to enhance corrosion resistance and maintain its appearance.

Handle Care: The wood handle can be treated with a wood conditioner to preserve its natural beauty and prevent drying or cracking.
